Moments from the week.

Living from moment to moment on this roller coaster week. We flew off to the hospital in Inverness on Monday, and John has had a series of tests to determine the source of his cancer. It was been so very difficult, as you will imagine, and not everything has gone smoothly. I have been sustained by knitting and the perfect audiobook, but most of all, the wonderful supportive and loving comments here, (and elsewhere) from the practical help from friends and family, and all the amazing spiritual help too. I cannot thank everyone enough. I read all your comments out to John over the week, and we have been so comforted by them.
So - where are we now?
The tests and scans show a large carcinoma in the spine, and a small lesion on his left lung. A biopsy has been taken to determine the type of cancer, but preliminary results indicate an adeno-carcinoma. If this is indeed the case, he will go to the neurosurgery unit in Aberdeen early next week, where the large tumour will be removed and two titanium vertebrae will be inserted. After recovery from that operation he will have intensive radiotherapy on the lung. It all sounds very simple.... but we know we have a long way to go yet. A precious weekend now beckons us, and we will spend some quiet family time together before jumping back on the roller coaster next week. xxx

  1. What a rough ride you are both having, Jacqui. Thank you for keeping us up to date. A group of friends from church came round yesterday to help me pack the Incredible Book and we took some time to pray for you and John. I think of you often. xx

Thank you for the update Jacqui. We have all been thinking about you and your family, and sending love and prayers, and we will continue to do so. Enjoy this precious weekend. May it give you a bit more strength before you strap yourselves in for the next bit of the journey. In actual fact, we are always, inescapably, in God's arms (Psalm 91) but it's our human nature to feel so pulled and frightened. I hope you can feel all the love and prayers coming your way.

  20. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family as you travel this pathway. I saw a picture at our hospital last week when my husband was having some tests done himself, it reminded me of one you posted a while back showing the beautiful beach and vividness of the sea where you live. How strange we were both in hospital rooms, possibly at the same time and you should come into my heart and mind. Take care xxx

  24. I've been checking back daily and hoping for the best each time. I'm so very sorry to hear the diagnosis and know all too well the fear and uncertainty that comes with it. None of this is the news we've all hoped for, but at least being armed with a diagnosis, you'll be able to formulate a plan, and that sense of actively charting a road ahead is so important. Wishing you strength and moments of quiet to gather your courage about you. Sending love from Chicago.

  25. Just wish I could give you a big hug and we could talk. Try, if you can Jacqui to remember as believers we serve a God who is massively bigger than any of our circumstances, He is our 'Yesterday Today and Tomorrow" that means He has done tomorrow for you because He was there with YOU. There will be huge amounts of decisions to make, let your heart guide you, its the wellspring of your faith. Pray that our Lord gives you wisdom, strength and comfort.

Prayers and much love Tricia (South Africa) xxx

  38. My thoughts and prayers have been with you all this past week. My sister was diagnosed with a stage 4 adeno-carcinoma almost 7 years ago. It was colon to her liver. She had her treatments in Manhattan at Sloane Kettering. She has been cancer free for six years now. One day at a time you will get thru this. There are so many amazing treatments that are available. I know hers was still in the experimental/trial stage when it was given to her. You and your husband will continue to be in my prayers. God bless. xoxo
