A boy was nine years old yesterday. So hard to believe, but it's true. The first of our big 'first time since...' occasions but we were ok. Lots of cards, a few gifts, FaceTime calls, his favourite meal and a chocolate banana cake helped a bit. So thankful to have him - he's a great boy. xxx
A beautiful blessing from God
ReplyDeleteThe best of life's blessings to you both from now on in.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday James - its a lovely photo and you look very like your Dad. Someone took a photo earlier this year of one of my daughters and she looked just like her Dad ..as did her identical twin, and we find that really comforting.
ReplyDeleteJacqui, I wrote that first birthday card to the girls signed just me earlier this year and it feels sad but as the "firsts" pass I feel a sense of relief that it is done and we are OK. I've just come back from a tricky work interview in Edinburgh, trying to get chartered as an Ecologist working in forestry and I missed not being able to talk it over with my level headed husband. Another first, hard, sad, painful but each time it helps build a bit more strength and I bounce back abit quicker. Just finished Grief with feathers by Max Porter which I picked up in Edinburgh, a really lovely bit of fiction published in Sept by Faber.
And on another note, inspired by your stay in Kitehill yurts near Builth, I have booked one for me, the girls and my Mum for the wool show next year. Girls are desperate to stay in one and we often go to the wool show. We were particularly excited by the blue folk art in the yurt! Something to look forward to along with a long planned trip to Harris with friends for my 50th with the hope if getting to St Kilda next summer...exciting! Ali x
thank you, Ali - i am so pleased you are going to Kate's yurts. They are beautiful and very near Builth indeed. it's good to read your comments here xxx

ReplyDeleteThose 'first since' moments are so hard. Love and each other will see you through. xx
ReplyDeleteEchoing what others have said, the first times aren't easy . I'm approaching the second of my late husband's birthdays since he died, and I'm not sure what to think about it. I shall always mark it in my heart but I will have to talk to my daughters as to whether they want to do anything more than that - I'd raise a glass to him if I was a drinker, but he had some good Scottish pals who will do that for me, I think. He's alive in our memories, and that's important and significant. Our young people [yours, mine and Ali's] are all dealing with this new kind of life in a very mature kind of way, and I feel here that I am happy to let the girls lead a little in how we deal with these anniversaries. As mothers. we always want what is best for them, I know, so it seems right to do what they feel comfortable with, although it does need to be recognised that we have been bereaved as well, so our feelings do definitely count too. I think you will know what I mean. Sending much love to you both, and belated birthday wishes!
ReplyDeleteI do know, Morgan - we'll find our way, I'm sure xxx
