Snow has been falling on the island this week. Great fun when you are 5 years old, but after a while we retreat to snuggle up indoors where it is warm.
But what's this? More snow - inside? Just a couple of flakes to start with...
and then a veritable snowstorm! I had great fun trying out various crochet snowflake patterns for my garland. I will update my ravelry page soon with the links.
The tiny ones worked out best for what I had imagined. I crocheted 15, using half a ball of Rooster almerino from my stash. Such a fun quick wee project.
Reading wise - well, John and I are currently training as First Responders with the Ambulance service. Volunteers from the community who will attend medical emergencies right away and carry out basic first aid, or life support procedures, until the paramedics arrive. We are 20 minutes drive away from the hospital, and our 3 ambulances have a lot of area to cover, so First Responders can play an important role in the scattered communities. Tonight is our last training night, and there is a wee test at the end...
In between I have been thoroughly enjoying this light Christmassy romance.Completely predictable, as all romantic novels must be, but very atmospheric, great fun - and lots of delicious sounding food.

they're just lovely Jacqui - there's nothing better than homemade Christmas deccies. I CAN"T wait for some snow, if it'll just hold on in the North for another two weeks... =)

ReplyDeleteThe first responder scheme sounds excellent. Could make a huge difference in isolated, scattered communities, I'm sure. Hope the wee test went well, too. No doubt, Jnr is loving the snow - our lot loved the waist-high stuff in Sweden in the garden.
ReplyDeleteIt is very cold and windy here on the Welsh border, but still no sign of snow. The snowflake garland looks beautiful strung across your mantlepiece, one of my goals next year is to master crochet, it does seem to keep eluding me.
ReplyDeleteOH is a first aider where he works, and is called upon quite often to administer medical attention........good luck with your test to qualify as a First Responder. x
I am so very envious of your snow! It is once again going to be in the mid 70's here. It's very hard living in the deep south sometimes.
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful that you are going to be a first responder. I wonder how it works here. I live about 30-45 minutes from town [depending on traffic] so it might be worth checking out.
Your snowflakes look great. I tried learning to crochet flowers, but failed.

ReplyDeleteSnowflakes! I did a snowflake afghan for our babysitter last year, and after so many snowflakes I think it will be quite some time before I can bring myself to make any again. I do love yours, though, and I love that last shot of the garland. Beautiful!

Every year I vow to crochet a few snowflakes. I think living in a hot climate has deterred me (that and my lack of crochet skills). Perhaps I need to try at least one this year. Good luck with your exam.

Enjoy the snow outside. Here in the south of Britain it`s mild and still green. I`m hoping to see some snow over Christmas, when we are travelling to Germany to be with my parents.
A lovely winter garland.We are supposed to be experiencing summer at the moment but it's more like winter as I sit here in a jumper! Very unseasonal. That book sounds wonderful. I could with something k=like that just now, we can't get much done outside as it's also raining.
