Yarn Along at lunchtime

I became very bored with the blue jumper I shared last time. It had become such a chore - something I felt I had to plough through before I could move on to the projects I really wanted to do. But, who was forcing me to sit there labouring away with my two needles flapping? No-one except my silly self. So - I ripped it out - just like that, and in one bound I was free - free to crochet a round stripy cushion for the red chair in my sitting room. It is the pattern from Cute and Easy crochet, I am working it in Sirdar Snuggly DK - a lovely cosy yarn, and the colours will match the room.

I am quite pleased at how it is coming along - a few more rounds and that will be the first side done. I started this on Sunday night - so that is good progress for me.

I crocheted a hat -  without a pattern! How hard is it to take a decent picture of your own head? This was done in Patons Soft Tweed -  Ravelry notes are here.

I am reading a book about pie - while eating pie too! Nicely written memoir about a lady, suddenly widowed, and her journey through that loss - and there is pie, of course. Making Piece by Beth M. Howard - a gentle and uplifting book, despite the sad beginning.
I have hardly read at all over the Summer, and have been missing it.  I am actually getting up a bit earlier to have half an hour or so to read before everyone else rises, and it is such a nice way to start the morning. And over lunch too - leftover black pudding and leek pie, fried potatoes and a spoonful of hot sauce and a good book - perfect.

Joining in the Yarn Along today, over at Small Things.

  1. Good for you in taking control of your yarn and making something you enjoy.
I think you did a fantastic job taking a photo of your head and I love the hat, cloche's are a favorite of mine.
I could use a piece of pie right about now, I'm hungry. What is black pudding? That is a new one to me.

    1. Yes Tracey - I did have to be very assertive :)
I somehow don't think you would go for Black Pudding - it's like a blood sausage, but has oatmeal, spices and suet in it. xx

  4. It is very hard to take photos of anything yourself, but I'm getting better at it!! I don't mind ripping out stuff that isn't working out or I'm not enjoying glad you are once again happy! Cute hat :)

  6. Before I even get started on my planned comment, I want to thank Laurie for her mention of a Glasgow School of Yarn. That's a place i'd like visit.

Bravo to you for unraveling the sweater that was unpromising. Just this afternoon, I finally did the final binding off of two scarves and even did the blocking bits. I have to be in a certain mind set to do these fiddly bits at the end of a long knitting project.

Your photo portrait with hat is lovely. I enjoy knitting and crocheting hats, and know that photography is tricky.

And now...as the sun has set, I'll switch on my tv and see what is going on tennis-wise over in Queens at the US Open. And...cast on some yarn for either another scarf or perhaps switch over to a new set of fingerless mitts.

  8. My husband went Oooh! at the thought of black pudding and leek pie. Is it egg based, quiche style? I think I might be having to experiment there.
Thank you, too, for the beautiful sun pictures in your earlier post, they had me in tears - but your photos so often do.

  9. It's near impossible to take a good photo of your own head. But you did an admirable job. You have very pretty eyes, BTW, soulful. :) Love the stripy cushion cover. I think I need them for my studio chairs! And pie reading? While eating pie? Kind of heavenly.

  10. Hat picture came out great! My teen tells me that the secret to taking a good "selfie" is to hold the camera at arms length and above your head so you're looking up.
    Love the sunrise/sunset pics too.

  11. I tried taking some photos of me today. Honestly, it's impossible. Finding a passing small child and getting them to point and press often gets better results I find. The trick is getting the camera back off of them afterwards. The crochet is great. I love making things where the colours change, I know what you mean about getting bored with one colour. Very freeing to rip it back and move on to something else I think. Hop;e you have a good weekend.

  12. I've never captured a photo of myself that I'd share publicly, so kuddos to you -- I think yours turned out wonderful. :) And good for you for boldly saying "no" to a project that just wasn't adding to your happiness! Hope you share your crocheted stripes when finished.

  14. love your lunch ... fried potatoes with just about anything is fantastic. was very encouraged by your decision to just do it and rip out the jumper ... been there many times. no more jumper, no more pressure to finish it ... fabulous. love the cushion you're making instead and I am impressed with your hat.
