Seven Days

We were completely awestruck at the most incredible Aurora Borealis, viewed right from our very own front doorstep. Photographs, and adjectives can never truly capture this amazing natural wonder, so we only took a couple, and then surrendered ourselves to the moment.

I had a little potter around the garden, tidying up, getting ready for winter, and sitting dreaming and planning for next year. My sister brought me this cheery red thermal mug, and I have used it constantly.

We really enjoyed the TV show, Portrait Artist of the Year, on Sky Arts, and were sad when it finished. Now we have Landscape Artist of the Year, and it looks to be equally as good. It certainly got James inspired to follow along.

The car was in the garage for an MOT, and so I took the chance to wander in the woods nearby for a couple of hours. It was good to be among trees, and smell that autumn scent - so uplifting.

I started cutting out the blocks for the quilts I am making to finish off James' room. I am recycling the fabric from the old window blinds. I have a plan, just need to see how it works out...

After a shopping trip to town, I stopped in at a favourite cafe, and indulged in hot chocolate, slice of cake, and a dip into my new charity shop book.

More wandering around this stunning landscape, enjoying the big skies, soaking up this golden weather, grateful for all the beauty around us.

Wishing you all a wonderful week ahead.

  6. Jacqui, it's good to see this seven days post from you. Every image is a very strong one, and tells of meaningful stops made along the week.

I would love to be able to see the beautiful northern lights. One of my brothers spent some time way up in northern Canada and has told me about his experiences seeing them.

I've read perhaps all of Anita Brookner's novels and found them to have a certain mood, although they feature different characters and variations on plots. Although I was always rather sure of what was going to happen, or not happen, I always found her writing very fine.

Thank you also for the photographs of the standing stones. They are wonderful.

    xo to you and yours.

  10. What a beautiful, unexpectedly magical place you live!. It's always been a place of marvel to me, in my lifelong imagination and longing to be there, and to LIVE there---I cannot conjure the daily felicity.

Your photos are lush and stark and evocative of so many emotions and circumstances---the wonders of Nature, home comforts, a day of leisure with reading and chocolate, and lovely times shared with your son. Thank you for sharing.

  12. I would love to see the Northern Lights. I could go on a flight from Norwich airport up to Scotland but of course, you're not guaranteed to see them and it costs just as much as it would to go to Iceland for three days. Of course, I could try and persuade hubby to come up to Lewis. I know his nephew lives north of Inverness and they often see the lights. Last year, they were seen as far south as Norfolk but I missed them.

I really do enjoy your posts and yes, you do live in a wonderful place.

    God bless
    Pat

  13. Fantastic. I've seen some amazing photos online of the "Fir Chlis". I'm so glad you were able to see it. I've seen the Northern Lights three times in my life, and felt mesmerised by how they pulsed. Definitely a feeling as much as a sight. So glad to see you treated yourself. And that you found a woods to go for a walk in - yes...

  19. I saw the northern lights when I studied in Aberdeen back in the 80s but nothing as good as the lights you have photographed. Humbling experience. I am off to Edinburgh for work next month so maybe I will get a chance then! Never tire of your photos of the stones. I love old stones- stones and the lights all in one week! I am living in the wrong place though we have a few lovely dolmens in West Wales.
