A different playground

We had a few days on the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides last week.  James was so excited about going on the Ullapool to Stornoway ferry.

He had bought a toy ferry boat with some of his Christmas money and had spent many anticipatory hours ferrying various cars and toys over The Minch ( the stretch of water betwen the Scottish mainland and the Western Isles.)

He liked being on the boat and when we arrived, he really enjoyed seeing a different landscape (and this bright red tractor too!)

He especially loved playing around the 5000 year old Callanish stones.

An ancient playground  - great for running around and playing hide and seek, as countless generations of local children have before.  It was a very special place to celebrate St Brigid's day on the islands named in her honour.  We had made Brigid's crosses from straw the day before we left and hung them up over the nature table.

Another portent of spring!

There are many more links to nature, seasonal and craft blogs at The Magic Onions
(There are lots more photgraphs of the Callanish stones on my other blog, if you care to visit.)
