Sunday Sunday

The first day of official Summer time was glorious, so after a quick bite of lunch, we decided it was time to give the beach bag it's first outing of the year.  A rug, thermos of tea and an observer's book of the seaside and we were off on the short drive to the beach.

And relax...

Oh, but it was wonderful to be back on the sand, under the warming sun - now holding a promise of some Summer heat out to us. The air, the smell - the feeling was just sublime.

John disappeared to a sunny spot with a book, while James took off, as children on beaches do. Here he is playing at being King Canute - with no more success, but finding a seat "like a throne" in the rocks.

And I wandered along, looking at the rainbow of colours along the shoreline.  Oh my, I must take hundreds of pictures of shells, or tangles of seaweed - I love the shapes, the colours - how every single one is different.  I love the way the waves leave them  carelessly scattered along the beach, and yet once you start to look, you notice that they are carefully positioned works of art - the Master stylist at work.

I never tire of being here - it is so completely and utterly refreshing, cleansing, uplifting...

The water is so clear, and I take my first paddle of the year - it feels wonderful.  I declare that if I could plunge my feet into such water everyday I would live for ever.

But time moves on and boys are hungry, so we head home for tea.

Today, though, the light lingers well into the evening, we cannot resist a little stroll to watch the sun set.

Before heading home for the night.
A perfect day, I hope yours was too.

  1. To be able to walk to the ocean any day would fulfill a life-long dream. But I'm not sure I could stand it if I could also walk among standing stones any time I wished. What lovely day!

  3. I do adore your beach Jacqui and how beautiful your water looks.
I need to get back to my beach here, I miss it. I sometimes feel
so guilty that others pay dearly to visit here and I take it for
    granted, shame on me!

  4. How simply glorious that all looks. Although Autumn here it is still a beautiful place to be at any one of our beaches (about 40mins drive for us). We don't frequent ours nearly as often as I'd like.

  7. It looks absolutely beautiful. The sun has been wonderful. The feel of it on my skin and on my hair is amazing, after a long and somewhat dreary and wet winter!
I love your collage of little bits of seaweed and shells and sea creatures. A perfect day on the beach.

Thank you for that little trip to the beach - I could feel the sand between my toes! Here in Aberdeen it has been really beautiful. I was in the garden on Sunday and felt an odd sensation. It took me a minute to identify that it was WARMTH! Thanks also for your loving comment - much appreciated. xx

  15. Lovely. It makes me want to be there with you.

I've been reading here for a while and never said "hi". I thought we were kindred spirits, but now, seeing the Anderson tartan in your beach bag, I know we are. :)

I live in a small town in Manitoba, Canada dreaming of a move to the countryside. But my husband and I spent a year in Scotland when he was doing his Post-Graduate studies, so your blog feels like "home" in a number of ways.

Thanks for everything. Wishing you a week as lovely as your stroll on the beach.

Summer already huh? Wow ! And here in Sunny (Northern) California, we had SNOW last weekend (Up on the mountaintops) I so love this post of yours... the beautiful beach , a place I rarely get to , even though I live in California, is so apreciated watching the waves from your blog. There we are, sipping tea, watching James play amonst teh tide, and knitting away (at least I am, you're likely busy making very insightful notes in your observer's book) I am stunned at the fact that you can just *walk past* those ancient erected stones, like ho-hum... everyday life. I don't have words to express my sense of obliviousness I feel when peering through the window which is "Barefoot Crofter". Thank you Jacquie, very very much.
