Edinburgh

A few days in Edinburgh, catching up with family. Enjoying seeing my Mainland children and grandchildren. Playing in the trees and window shopping. Crossing the River Forth to the fertile land of Fife to visit John's aunt. So pleased to see her looking absolutely amazing at 91.
All in all a great stopover.

Marketing

Lots of delicious displays at Borough Market, just North of London Bridge. A perfect day out, taking in the sights, smells and tastes of the wonderful produce for sale, enjoying the busy lunchtime vibe of Applebee's Fish shop and restaurant, where James had his first taste of caviar.
This is our last night in the city. We have had a great time - such a change of scene for us - and surprisingly restful.
Tomorrow we fly back to Edinburgh where we will spend a few more days with family. More postcards to follow.

In the Mean Time

A trip over the Thames on the Docklands Ligh Railway.

Visiting the Maritime Museum complex in Greenwich.

Navigating our way back home on the Great Map.

Nice things to eat in the museum cafe.

Sorry that we had already eaten when we saw this traditional Pie Shop.

A view of the river from Greenwich.

The Cutty Sark and the Foot Tunnel under the Thames.

Then back across the river to our hotel.

Last full day in London tomorrow. Looking forward to a delicious day!

Postcards from the journey.

Driving to Harris in the dark.
Leaving the island at dawn.
Marvelling at the grandeur  of the Cuillin.
Enjoying the beauty of the still day.
Ben Nevis with a cap of cloud
Crossing the bridge
Relaxing in the hotel.

Another very early start on the second leg of our journey tomorrow - London here we come!

Preparations

I've roasted all the ripe tomatoes.

I've checked round the garden.

I've kissed the baby.

I've sorted out a crochet project.

I've set the alarm for an absurdly early time ...

... because we are off on holiday!!

A few days in London, a few days in Edinburgh. So much to look forward to. I'll send lots of postcards xxx

Seven Days at random

:: Sunday lunch at the home of friends - lovely company - great food - and a view!

:: Cream buns - and the first time I have ever made choux pastry

:: A Moss Carder Bee sunning itself outside the polytunnel.

:: A Night at the Opera - Handel's Rodelinda  - beautiful.

:: Candy striped beetroot - a ring for each moon of growth.

:: Watching a commercial for Japanese cauliflower mayonnaise being filmed at the standing stones

:: A surprise hatching of chicks.

Just a random collection of my days lately -  little things that make me smile. Wishing you lots of smiles in the days ahead.

Sunset

1st October 2013 07.00 pm

1st September 2013 08.25 pm

There has been quite a change in the position of the sun on my horizon in the last month - and in the length of the day - now 2 1/2 hours less daylight than at the beginning of September. We have passed the Autumnal Equinox of course, so the balance has shifted towards the longer darker nights. This end of this month sees the clocks going back, as Summertime ends, so the sunset will be even earlier. The weather has been very warm and sunny though, so it is good to get outside and take advantage of these busy golden days.
