vintage tractors - and garage workshops;
concerts in the village hall;
visits from the library van;
silverweed, seaweed and sea pinks;
blond curls
Fathers and Grandfathers.
and let's slide into another week!
Summer is such a busy time and so much is going on that I want to hold on to. Each Sunday I will be posting a list of things I have loved in the past week. Those ordinary but special things that might have gone unnoticed or forgotten Trying to distill the love and joy from this hectic Summer season to remember with gratitude when the days are short again.

ReplyDeleteWhat a collection of beautiful moments and simple things to appreciate you've assembled. My daughter studied the Kathleen Fidler book at school (is it the Desperate Journey in English?) and found the accounts of the Clearances quite upsetting. Her godmother, on the other hand, says that in the 1970s they were taught nothing of Scottish history.

Christine - yes it is The desperate journey. We have read the English version and it is fairly harrowing. And i would agree with your daughter's godmother about the blanking of Scottish history in the 70s.
I have to say I put off that haircut for as long as I could. I worried that his curls would not come back in - as happened to my step-daughter's ringlets, but it was just getting too mad professor-ish. i think we've got away with it though.

ReplyDeleteThat's a great blog post. Ah, those little blonde curls - reminds me of when my James was a toddler, he had curly, blonde hair and I used to cut it myself when it got too long. One year, we collected all the curls up and put them in an old washing net (the kind you get with washing tablets) and hung the net up in the garden. All the blue-tits had blonde curls in their nests that Spring!!
ReplyDeleteI love that garage workshop, the kind of place you could sit with a cuppa and always have something interesting to look at or turn over in your hand. I love the smell of proper workshops like that, that kind of oil and wood mixture. The tractor looks like fun to sit on too! xxxxx

Pippa - yes we have done that with the curls before. This time, though, he wanted to keep them and they are inside his toy oven in a bowl :)
Iain - we had a lovely longest day - and i won't tell John you thought he was my Dad! (he is in the cafe picture) I think I worded that bit badly.
NH - it was indeed a boy - and his Dad's dream, and i had already been sitting outside knitting for several rows before i had to go in a see what was happening. xx
