Well - here they are! Three Gloucester Old Spot X Large White piglets arrived in the back of the truck this afternoon. They are absolutely gorgeous - three bundles of cuteness.
But, noses in the trough straight away, so they wont stay small for very long.
Then off to explore their new world - I think they will enjoy it once they settle in.
Robbie is a bit bewildered by them - although they look very interested in him.
In fact they are extremely inquisitive little creatures -
and their first quest was to find a way out.
And sure enough - they succeeded!
A rather frantic dash down after them, rattling a bucket of pig nuts, and we caught up with them at the Post Office. They dutifully trotted all the way back up - making a slight detour into a neighbours garden, only to run straight back out again when they came face to face with the Alsatian who lives there.
Alls well that ends well, however, and they are safely back in their home, suitably reinforced at the suspected weak spot. They are now curled up together, asleep in the middle of the shrubbery - recharging their energy for another round tomorrow. Challenging times ahead, I think - but fun too. xx
oh so sweet but sounds like you will have your hands full. I have a bunny like them.... find any weakness and will keep digging till it gives!

It always amazes me the moments you have your camera to hand! Certainly looks like fun times ahead, I have a feeling you will see those little piggies grow before your very eyes!

ReplyDeleteSounds like you need an electric fence run around at little piggie level. Mine used to dig out under the fences so we had to bury corrugated iron around the perimeter to stop them. They'd end up digging up the neighbors garden otherwise. They were wonderful for rooting up the vast mounds of blackberries (a dreaded weed here in Tassie). Hope you enjoy them. I enjoyed mine with apple sauce, eventually.

ReplyDeleteClaire - I had nipped out to take a picture of the sunset - we have had several stunning pink ones this week, and there they were - couldn't resist a snap, but it is very blurry, as i was fighting a rising panic at the time. :)

deb - we do have electric fencing around the back of their plot, but don't want it along the side of the drive, where dogs and children can wander into it. Hopefully we have it covered now, but i think we will be hovering nervously for a wee while.
Mel and Steve - we love them already - and i am not even thinking of being at you stage yet.
AC - the word cute doesn't even begin to describe their cuteness.
Jeanette - hello! I am sure there will be plenty pig action on here, which you can enjoy vicariously - and without having to chase them too!

I can imagine their sweet little piggie faces staring up at you as you catch them the wrong side of the gate, and then trotting off down the road in their bid for freedom.....you will certainly have your work cut out but I'm sure it will be lots of fun and well worth it. x

Hi Jacquie, they look fine. They always find the weakest spot and go for it.....no doubt you'll have further chases in future. The bucket usually does the trick, though. We had an Oxford Sandy & Black once that used to get onto the top bar of the gate, rock back & forth to shift weight forward, then drop down into the main garden area and was known to wander the common and chase the postie at times. Great fun and very, very inquisitive always. And boy, can those things eat!

They are just beautiful! I had a pet pig, a gift from my husband, who we named Vivian. She would always escape, eat all the pecans from under the trees, lay on my front porch and try to come in the back door. I really think she thought of herself as a dog. xx

ReplyDeleteWe wouldn't be without electric fencing for ours - I have witnessed a young pig lift up a gate with his nose and just toss it over his shoulder like it was cardboard!
