Gazing out over the Atlantic breakers towards the Western horizon, our thoughts turn to the city of New York. Can it really be 10 years ago that those blue morning skies were blotted out by flames and dust?
So many innocent lives dashed in an instant - at that moment - and in the decade since.
So we send our love and healing wishes out with the tide, to the people of America; of Iraq; of Afghanistan and London, and all others caught up in the fires that were ignited on that day.
An event which has touched us all. Even here, in this remote and beautiful spot. For we stand on the beach at Mangersta, on the West coast of the island. This is the home of Linda Norgrove, kidnapped while working with Afghan women and children, and who died while being rescued.

Sept. 11th was a day that was heartbreaking for the entire world...because it changed the world in so many ways...I guess there are blessings too that have come from it through seeing others reach out...but the senseless deaths are what are truly heartbreaking.

ReplyDeleteYou said this beautifully. When it comes to September 11th words still fail me, and I can see it all so clearly in front of me, the interuption on the television screen, thinking this was some kind of movie and then the reality sinking in. Never will I forget.

ReplyDeleteI was chatting to some friends online when this happened and some of them were in America, although not in NY. Most of them knew someone in NY thought, and the terror was apparent. We all had one eye on our monitors and one eye on the TV. I dont think I will ever forget it.
